charlie's an angel

Sometimes I wonder where I've been all my life. I mean: last Saturday we went to the Dover Street Market for the first time. I've seen that name everywhere and assumed it was another street market, like Camden or Spitalfields or Portobello Road. So often, someone would wear something great in a magazine or something, and it was from Dover Street Market. More recently, through bloggers I've realised it's actually a shop.

Only it's not just shop, as I discovered. It's a whole building, a world, a unique experience. There's a little tin hut on one level, another is like a potting shed. Feeling and holding real Christopher Kane velvet ribbon dresses in my hands... and Azzedine Alaia.. Comme des Garcons.. it's a movable feast of fashion as art. And the customers are the most style savvy folk I've seen in one place, outside of London Fashion Week.

The staff are so stylish, as in, not slaves to fashion, but with their own, unique style, their inner niceness just glowing forth. You know what I mean. Take Charlie, for example. He was such a star about helping me, that just had to take him outside and shoot him. I didn't ask where he got anything because I didn't want to keep him out too long, didn't want him to get in trouble. Hopefully I'll get permission to shoot inside, but for now, you'll just have to take my word for it.

love his look, and what's he's done with the color navy. and i wouldn't mind a pair of cool lace-up boots like his; matters not that it's men's footwear. cute guy.

i've heard of dover street market (having never been to the UK, but i have many Brit friends here in the BVI)...had assumed, like you, that it was a street market! one would be led to believe that from...well, the name. :)

enjoy your weekend! xo

Ah, Anonymous... whoever you are, I am so grateful for your tip offs!! I'm really starting to think you're God. It's uncanny, they just appear, guiding me along.. no, I didn't know. I just knew he was really helpful for what I needed, and spent time with me, and was totally modest (I assumed he was a sales person on the lower ground floor @ DSM: that's why I approached him). I feel like an idiot, of course, for not knowing, but then again: if we're not willing to admit we don't know things, how else can we learn?

Thank you all for your comments. On Charlie's behalf.

wonderful blog you have! i found you through anders-anziehen, i believe, and you're going on my blogroll :)
would you please tell me where i find that grey jumper you wore in the last post? i clicked on your AA link, searched for jumper, didn't find it. i wouldn't call it a jumper, that dress, but german is my first language, and no one has quite ever explained to me what all a jumper can be, so you have added to the definition there.
have a lovely rest of the week!
