stellar

I don't know when I first met Stella, of Stella's Wardrobe, but I'm pretty sure I've shot her before, at previous fashion weeks. She's also in a recent post. She also might look familiar to you if you've been to other blogs, because she's gone global all of a sudden. 19, and she's like everywhere, including yesterday's Evening Standard. I've done the classic top to toe 'streetstyle' shot of her the previous day (will post eventually)but this time, I've chosen, just to mix things up a bit, to deconstruct her look.

The thing about Stella is, she's really really nice: just one of the sunniest souls I've ever met. She became part of a group of lovely friends that we hung out with this week, had lunch, etc, and I kept forgetting her name. 'Stella', she'd say, again, with a smile, and I thought of a trick to remember: Marlon Brando. I coulda been a contender. Except that line's from On the Waterfront, 1954, and when he's screaming Stella! in the street, that's Streetcar Named Desire, 1951. Neither of which film I've seen in its entirety. Yet.

The definition for 'stellar' is: stel·larAdjective/ˈstelər/
1. Of or relating to a star or stars: "stellar structure and evolution".
2. Featuring or having the quality of a star performer or performers.

Stella is wearing: Christopher Kane skirt, Topshop fur cape, and shoes by Kurt Geiger.

Check out her blog. She's brilliant, and mark my word, she's gonna be a serious contender.

we are all birds of paradise

Last night I had the most amazing experience: the Kurt Geiger press day. You come into this beautiful old building, climb a winding stair, and enter into a tropical rainforest. On a large screen in the entry, a film of Richard Attenborough with birds of paradise plays as you enter this beautiful, high ceiling ballroom with french doors, and two installations: one is day, with shoes some dangling, some on the floor and then.. night.

It was the most spiritual experience, hearing the soothing sounds of birds in the tropics, gazing up at these beautiful coloured pieces. I spoke with the CEO, who really took the time to talk with each of us - and listen. He described the creative evolution, which started with the YSL quote, and then they discovered that Sir Richard had also said, while filming the birds, the following quote:

And, said the CEO: there was our genesis for the idea.

He is also really into bloggers: he gets it about what we are doing. It felt like everything coming full circle: we have a voice, and the people at Kurt Geiger are listening.

I always am drawn to coincidence: serendipity. That is my way of believing that God is paying attention to little old me. The art of creativity - and especially, creative collaboration - is something that, when it all clicks, it is divine. That's what last night felt like. Watching women arrive and gaze up at each of the beautiful shoes.. I must run now, just a few more press events, but I want to continue this thought because it all made sense last night when I was falling asleep and now, I'm just babbling.

Thank you, my dear friend Charlotte, for inviting me. We were friends before I started blogging, and before she started working with them, which is just part of the whole serendipitousness of life.

not my puppy

We were walking with Angus in Chelsea, which was a plan, but what we didn't expect was we all brought dogs: the delightful Jackson, and he brought his girlfriend's. So it was the old 'I didn't know you had a dog' 'Well I don't actually'.. then we ran into Felicia, who of course fell in love with the adorable dog, and we ran thru the whole 'It's not my dog' thing again.. have you ever tried to focus manually on an out of control, excitable puppy?

Felicia, who's from Greece but has been here four years, studied fashion design & currently doing a postgraduate degree @ LCF, (and is doing a million interesting things, including assisting styling for photo shoots) is wearing the perfect city summer outfit, in London or anywhere, really: a soft black leather motorcycle jacket from Miss Selfridge, (in preparation for that sudden summer cold snap), a hot pink summer dress from H&M, bare legs, Kurt Geiger tan gladiator sandals, black leather Gucci bag, and red toenail varnish. Hard/soft, male/female, ying/yang in perfect balance. A bit of turquoise jewelry and a big watch.. she's not trying to be all matchy matchy, in fact, not trying at all, but it's all effortless chic, down to her aviator sunglasses. And of course everyone's must-have accessory: a cute little fluffy dog.

You might recall Pat, back in March, at the Saatchi Gallery, in a genuine Harley Davidson vintage motorcycle jacket her boyfriend found in San Francisco. Imagine it now, sans jumper, black tights & skirt, but with a flirty pale pink/nude summer dress, or slip.

Of course, the ideal jacket is this gorgeous Topshop sequin number in nude, but it's still sold out. It's so unfair, Karla's got one, I want one, too. Please bring it back, Topshop! Pretty please! Perhaps we should start a petition.

case closed!

Okay, some of you might recall the lovely Lucy, who was out with Wallace when I dotted them on Gloucester Road way back on the 24th of March. It was a cold day and she was mostly in black, with a great, bit grey flannel type bag, and had these sweet pumps in the kind of nude pink we're all looking forward to wearing lots more of come real spring. I was having trouble sourcing them.

Well Lucy has just got in touch! She DID get them at Liberty - at the Christmas sale - and the brand is Solea. You all probably know about this, but I'd never heard of them. According to Lucy, they're quite common - she might have seen them at Harrods, too. They're sold at Kurt Geiger online, but not that exact style. The ones shown here are the Sindy Pink Courts*, supposedly were £119 ($222 USD) but now the extraordinary price of £19- must be a typo!

But I still like Lucy's best. Guess we'll have to hold out for eBay, or Oxfam.

The weird thing is, this all happened while Mr. Dot & I were watching rented DVDs of the Wire. It's all quite.. mysterious.
