emma (the eyes have it)

Today was a gloriously spring like day here in London, and the minute I walked out the door, I passed Emma. I really really hope she didn't lose my card: Emma if you're reading this please get in touch! - because I didn't source anything, ask where she's from, what she does... nothing.

I noticed her eyes first thing. She said she always does them like this. It's a stunning effect and I swear to you, I haven't retouched a thing: this is her gorgeous gorgeous skin, eyes.. just amazing. I took a few quick shots - click, click, click - and now Mr. Dot is clamouring for his supper (grilled sardines with garlic, olive oil & bread crumbs, if you're curious, with a green salad and baguette) but he's threatening to 'fill up on chocolate covered Hob Nobs' - something he knows makes me crazy - in fact he's eating them as we speak. All because I can't decide which shots to use! I can't narrow them down! So I'm just posting the whole lot.

Just as I was doing her full figure shot, a man walked by with a dog. I'm not sure if he spoke English, I just gestured: let the dog stay in the shot! So he did.

Emma's outfit is clearly the uniform of the week. I can't tell you how many women I've seen on the streets in black leather biker jacket, black tights or leggings & skirt, black boots, and leopard print scarf. But hands down, her look is my favourite.

Speaking of Emma: the BBC has just finished a great four-parter, starring Romola Garai. I can't remember which blog-friend recently said she wished they'd turn it into a period soap, like Eastenders, but I agree. I only caught it from the third episode, and can't wait for the re-runs. I'm sure it will start running world wide, so keep your eyes peeled.

biker chic (& i'm off to see the wizard)

Laura, outside Baker Street Tube. Like the previous shot, I'm always amazed when women who have a rather full on sexy look going on, are actually really sweet. That was the case with Laura, and also the girl in yesterday's post. I shot her in a wild, frenetic crowd: the hysterical minutes going into the KTZ show @ fashion week. We literally had to shout to each other when I asked to shoot her, and she told me her name, but I couldn't hear it. I was surprised after, that she came across such a calm pool of serene. And that I'd managed to get that shot unobstructed.

Thank you for your really good comments on glamour yesterday. I've been home since Friday with the highest fever I've had since childhood: I mean, I'm delirious. I'm not even sure I'm doing this post right. The most I'm hoping to accomplish after this is to drag my sorry ass over to the living room & watch The Wizard of Oz. Chanel 5 @ 3:00, if anyone in the UK is home and reading this.

who you laughing at

I haven't a clue, but don't you just love her outfit? She's got that exact right balance of stunning scarily high suede wedge booties, black leather motorcycle jacket paired with a girly sheer black flirty frock, bare legs.. basically every trend apart from sequins or gold studs (or leopard print) and yet it works so well because she looks like she doesn't take herself, or any of this, too seriously.

The most interesting, stylish, iconic people have one thing in common: they're genuinely more interested in the world around them than in what they're wearing, and that effortlessness shines through every time.

going grey

Helene, a really nice model from Holland, at Asprey on Bond Street. I don't know what's happened to me, but this weird weather is making me take a whole new look at grey. When I first saw it for spring I wondered what WERE they thinking, but now I've changed my mind. I'm seeing great looks in subtle shades of grey (especially gorgeous with nudes, pale ballet pinks).. this works because she can pull off the hard masculine bike jacket and leggings-under-shorts that's starting to look really tired on more vertically challenged girls. But one can't blame 'em: we NEED THOSE LEGGINGS!! If we don't layer, we'll freeze this summer.

p.s. (thursday) speaking of leggings: my husband, Mr. Dot, just found this great piece on leggings in the Times, by the witty & wonderful Lisa Armstrong.
