Flew Heathrow to JFK yesterday & met Joanna @ Virgin check-in. She's going to NYC for three months - she's a stylist - and I know she's going to take NY by storm. I was surprised she doesn't want to model, she's got such a great look, but I can kind of relate to and respect that she'd rather be behind the scenes than in front of a camera. But she made this exception for me.
I think this is just the perfect long haul flight outfit. You can take the hat off, of course, during air travel, but her grey knitted thing from Monsoon is basically a soft blanket for the over-air conditioned air. The secret of a long flight is to stick to knits - nothing hard, definitely no jeans. And it doesn't really matter what time of year you're traveling, or to what climate: when you're in the air, it's always the same season. Mildly tundra.
It's funny, I saw several cool girls wearing hats at the airport. But no men. Remember when men wore baseball caps? Turned around? I love how in films from the fifties, you'd see a scene of Manhattan and it was a sea of hats. Or in London, in the City, all those bowlers. I wonder if that's the shape of things to come: men bare headed, and chic women round the world, wearing the hats.
Just went to a great lunch with my mom and fifteen of her friends. (Oh: this was cute. My mom apologised for wearing a white handbag. I asked why and she said she read it on my post. I was trying to explain, it was just with that blue coat.. actually, hers looked great with her outfit.) Can't decide which shot of Joanna's I like best, so I'm posting them all. If anyone reading this is in NY and knows people in the fashion industry - or if you're elsewhere, but do - please let me know in comments or by email, and I'll pass it on to Joanna. Thanks!

I love all pictures of her! she is so cute :)
Perfect traveling outfit, I can only ever cope with looking like I am in PJ's to travel! I do like her hat x
I like the last photo of Joanna laughing- she looks like she's a lot of fun to travel with. Tell me Jill what is with the boots? I'm living in richmond, Virginia - and it is sooo hot here. This is your second or third post with women wearing boots- is this a new summer trend- ? And on top it all those suede boots she is wearing look like they would have shearling inside! md
I love traveling so much! She is so lucky! I am actually going to NYC in like 2 weeks...which I am extremely excited for! Her hat is super amazing! I really want to be one of those few men that wear a hat, but I really have to find the hat that looks right on me. I love her knit monsoon thingy! If I ever become a fashion designer...I swear that my first goal in mind will be to give men more clothing options and pieces because I honestly think men are extremely limited when it comes to clothing and options and clothing pieces! I find it so unfair that mens section of stores is 3 times smaller then the womens section! Anyway, Loving the shots and the ensemble!

I kid you not: it is really cold in London this summer! I have an Italian friend who is trying living half with her boyfriend in London, half at home on a lake in Italy, and just before heading back to Italy, she was kind of freaked out at what they're willing to call 'summer'. Now that I'm on Long Island, even when it's overcast and rainy at least it's.. tropical. The boots are... well, I'm here to report the news, ma'am : )
(In fact, if you look at a previous post, 'whiter shade of pale', I was so pleased to see Lucie in a summery frock. But if you note in the shot - as I did later on - she's actually carrying a FAKE FUR COAT! That's what we've been reduced to in the UK! Moments after taking that shot of her, I got caught in a freezing downpour. So much for global warming, huh.
TD: I really hope you do become a menswear designer, and do great kind of knitty things for men, too. There's a great blog under 'nice things' to the right, called knitkicks - she's a knitwear fashion student/designer, and focuses strictly on new designers and inovations in knitwear. Brilliant.
Ah! The sun's out! It's blinding : )
Nini: so funny you found this post: She is beautiful, as are you. You could be sisters, there's something you have in common. Your eyes perhaps?
i agree with you, she could be a model.
she has the beautiful face and height!
p.s. jill, thank you so much the birthday wishes for mr. freddy. i can't wait for him to understand and read the comments from all of you.
have a great day ahead!
she's both cute and beautiful...what a pleasing combination!
love what she's wearing for the long flight. i totally agree with you about "no jeans" when flying. i recently finally came to the conclusion that they're just not comfortable on long journeys. instead, i wore leggings for my flight this week (not a long flight, but still...)
Hi Jill! It's sweet of you to think of me. I'd love to meet her if she's interested. She's gorgeous, by the way!
jill! you're in new york! im sure you'd have LOADS of fun! i wish the weather would cooperate with your visit.
joana is very beautiful!
how beautiful!!!!!
i like it...
please come to my blog!!!

I typically don't care for hats like that, but I love this look. I really love when this hat is paired with an 80's themed look.
ohh i lover her!she is so adorable!i love her smile!;) hw was ur trip to Long Island?;)
Hi there! Love this girl's big grey top...inspired to wear something like it for next travel! Nice blog!
She is pretty, i love her hair and her nose !!
I anticipate this is just the absolute continued booty flight outfit. You can yield the hat off, of course, during air travel, but her blah knitted affair from Monsoon is basically a bendable absolute for the over-air conditioned air.

I love traveling so much! She's so lucky! I'm actually going to NYC in 2 weeks. I'm very excited! His hat is super fantastic! I really want to be one of the few men who wear a hat, but I really need to find a hat that looks right to me.
I have really wanted to be one of those rare men who wear a hat, but the truth is that finding a hat that looks good on me. I love knitting monsoon thingy! If I ever become a fashion designer
This means that you should always make sure that the curtain will never come into contact with a person.
