my lovely friend claudia and the catch-22

It's hard to believe that my dear Italian friend Claudia was ever a stranger, but strangers she was, when I came upon her & her boyfriend right around the corner from home, at the Boltons, and took her photo ('mystery brunette', 9 April). And now she's flying back to Italy tomorrow (she lives in what sounds like paradise to me: on a lake in the countryside, but not far from Milan for when she needs fashion & civilisation). And we're about to have lunch soon, it's raining outside (this will be my first big venture outside apart from Thursday, which really was too soon) & I'm going thru all the photos and I CAN'T DECIDE!

I had been trying to explain Catch-22 in relation to her relationship, and by coincidence, her boyfriend used the phrase, too, and now I'm stuck in this Catch-22 that, thru being all wishy washy on the shots, I could well miss out on lunch altogether. So I'm just sticking one up for now, and will do a proper post on another time.

Everything she's wearing is Italian: her trench and I believe the dress, too, are by her favourite designer, Patrizia Pepe. I love her look, so gamine & Audrey Hepburn, and in this series of shots, so 1920s flapper. More to come! xx

  2. I have to agree with your description of Claudia in this photograph. The more that I look at it, the more that I get the very 1920s flapper vibe from it. Her pose, and the hat, and the way her outfit hangs somewhat haphazardly off her frame is just very twenties inspired. I absolutely adore it! :)

  8. What can I say? Claudia, who once long ago in a gentle embrace I kissed. The soft touch of her lips on mine still lingers in my memory. She will always have a special place in my heart. It’s so nice to see her smiling. And yes she has always dressed to kill. Cheers john.
