day into night

So here's how it works basically: you leave in the morning, knowing you've got a whole day ahead of tons of things, work, school, errands, and you're going out that night and won't have time to go clear across town to change. In Tala's case, she kept the dress by Theory, and had, say, a cloth shopping bag with her so when she changed she could roll up the leather leggings and put them in the bag with the biker boots and check it in the coat room along with the Helmut Lang grey shearling vest. She'd switch to the heels by 7 For All Mankind, pull her little studded lip clutch by Lulu Guinness out, oh and throw on the faux fur coat by Halston Heritage.

This is, of course, only if it's a situation where you need to go top to toe glam. One thing about right now - in London, at least - is most parties or nights out it's more of a 'dress it up, dress it down' thing. We found, for example, that just taking off the belt and wearing the dress, tights, and biker boots, is a great look in itself. This look shown here is more for serious, grown up dressing up. (Sometimes it's reverse: sometimes just changing the shoes is all you need: when I was at the Armani/Brambleton party, a lot of girls just had unbelievably incredible heels, and just plain black maxis, or something really dressed down, and they looked amazing). Basically, with just the stuff you could fit into a bag, Tala could then dress it more down again to go clubbing later: the biker boots back on, say, or keep the heels and switch to the shearling vest.

We also felt in this case she didn't need any jewelry anywhere else, apart from tons of cocktail rings. Here's the thing: you can go crazy and over the top with tons of jewelry or pattern on pattern, or go really simple.. there are absolutely no rules right now, it's an incredibly creative time for fashion. It's purely about wearing WHAT YOU FEEL LIKE WEARING. That's all there is to being style icon: just wear whatever makes you smile.

How do you do the Day for Night transition? There are endless possibilities, and the fun of this exercise is just quickly picking one. Everything shown here is available now on MY WARDROBE. Except of course, that smile. It's purely model's own.

Okay, enough chit chat. Nite nite xox

Exactly: heels can transform anything. Last Friday night I had the Robinson Pfeffer party in the East End and I left my husband tucked up at home with the cat, took the tube, wearing my Mou's, left them with the coats and slipped on a pair of black Zara stillettos (with just a pair of nude H&M riding pants-type leggings and an old jumper): instant party outfit!

I love 2010. There is so much fashion freedom.

I'm so into faux fur right now... And I thought I would never say that but...

I don't go out very much (maybe twice a year...?) so my night outfits almost always are pj's...
