homage to peter (but really, homage to nicky)

For those of you who still don't know, there is a blog called lips of london made by someone who calls herself Nicky and claims to be 13 years old. I don't believe it for a minute. I think it's really a 37 year old woman (or a gay man) because 'she' is just too knowledgeable for one so young. This person claiming to be Nicky has even gone so far as to post really sophisticated Burberry-worthy fashion shoots of very young looking models, and claims one of them is 'Nicky'. Does he/she really think we're that naive?

But I must admit, I do learn a lot from 'Nicky', who also leaves great comments. For example, thanks to this Nicky person, I've just discovered Peter Som (virtually, mind you, because I've yet to see the stuff in the shops. I've just checked out shop locations, he's in Dubai, Wisconsin, Istanbul, FIVE locations in Russia including one in a city I've never heard of, Ekaterinburg, but nothing in the UK). Still, I was so impressed by the photos, I've created an 'homage' collage.

Unless... nah, this can't all be some elaborate hoax? Has anyone actually ever seen these fabulous clothes in Reality?

slip splash dior

Everything is connected, especially in fashion trends. Or memes, as an old (young) boyfriend used to call them. Ideas that seem to come to us and take a life of their own, like finding out that everyone you know around the world decided to wake up that morning and wear black and white. Or wear their underwear as outerwear, a phrase I've been using in the past few months and which Nicky of Lips of London referenced in her BRILLIANTLY WORDED POST on the recent Paris shows, from which I lifted this gorgeous fifties inspired Galliano number for Dior.

I had found a lovely example of this underwear-as-outerwear on a girl in the Tate, but it was a bit soft. Then I wore a slip for a week, and shot myself in the leg (slip splash). I'm looking forward to this filtering down to the high street, but between us girls: you've already got all the material you need right there at home. In your lingerie drawer!

fancy footwork, fine art

At the Contemporary Art preview recently at Phillips de Pury. I love how today there are absolutely no rules when it comes to fashion: even flip flops are allowed. What a great time in history to be a woman!

Speaking of fancy footwork, I was thinking about how my brilliant blog-friend Nicky (lipsoflondon) recently referred to Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face and 'that amazing tap dancing dude who's name escapes me (darn generation gap)' (I swear, Nicky, I'm not laughing at you! I'm laughing with you!) and thinking that, even tho Fred Astaire was ahead of my time, too, we must not lose that amazing tap dancing dude to history. I must get my hands on one of his films soon, because he was truly a legend not just in his time, but for all time!

If you can make it out, I love how her fabulous pink shoes match a small streak in her hair, and the girl's hair in the artwork! I loved the back of her trousers, with the slits up the back (she told me the designer but I can't find my notes -or her card!) My one shot is very blurry but hey, let's just call it Art.
