snippet of shiny thought #16: holly's twin shoes

The same day as the previous post, I had been walking from Piccadilly Station thinking that the shop windows were all about colour blocking, but the light on the street - dull, grey - matched the clothes palette which was totally neutral, black, dull, grey. Then at a distance I saw two happy girls bounding towards me emitting colourfulness and I thought 'yes: a street shot!'

Just as I was about to approach them to ask if they'd like to be photographed for my blah blah blah, who should say hello but my blog friend Lucy, of Snippets of Shiny Thoughts! I just read a great post she did on a uni project: she designed a perfume bottle and concept/logo/etc for Richard Nicholl, called SMOKE. I REALLY think it should be made, exactly as she conceived it. I'd buy it.

I'm starting to feel that my life in the city of London is one of those television soaps where there are about six characters in total and they just 'happen' to run into each other. I mean, the coincidences sometimes.. anyway my snippet of thought for this post was, meeting Holly, who has the colouring and haircut that I'd love to have in my next life, and who is really sweet, and I happened to admire her velvet ballet pumps and she said she got them at Urban Outfitters. But here's the clever snippet: she knew at the time she'd want them to last forever, so she bought two pair. It's such a good idea. I read somewhere that's what Jackie Kennedy did: if she liked a certain tee, or jumper, for example, she'd buy it in several colours. I wish I did it with a pair of black suede ballet flats with pompoms I got at Topshop years ago. And come to think of it: my neon pink plastic jelly sandals that I got at Urban Outfitters: if only I got two of those pair. When they eventually broke, I found a similar pair at New Look, but they're not exactly the same pink. They're a bit too peachy pink for me.

Actually.. this is weird. When I found the posts about it ('my reincarnated hot pink plastic celebrity sandals', 3 June 2009) and prior, 'my hot pink plastic celebrity feet'), the first comment was from a blog friend in Texas, Amy, who no longer blogs, who said 'go get another pair!' A sign: should have listened to that shiny snippet in my head. Because they no longer sell them: the closest I could get to hot pink New Look sandals were these.

What does this have to do with beets by the way? Not much. Except that was the next shot after the shoe shot - a luscious beet root and goat's cheese salad at the Arcadia Press Day (previous post) and I just like the way they look in relation to one another.

Okay, I'll shut up now.

flash paradise

.. I've discovered, is to simply wear the colour yellow! It's as simple as that!

Still haven't found my yellow swimsuit.. but found a photo (I actually think this was taken by Mr. Dot: and from a great distance, at that. Probably somewhere in the Carribean.. not sure).

Weird coincidence, tho: just as I found the photo, I also found in my inbox, an invite from my lovely friends Lucy (Snippets of Shiny Thoughts) and Carrie (WishWishWish) - they're doing a wonderful Uni project to raise money for Japan. Invite below, just please email flash@flashparadise, and/or tweet @flashparadise - oh and she said 'they need to be a blogger' but hey, if you're reading this, chances are you are one, right? Read all about it here.

It's funny that they chose this yellow background: it's more the kind of softer yellow I lean towards. The swimsuit, tho, if I recall, was that really intense yellow. The 'skirt' is a shot I took of a flower - it's not real. But then again, if you really think about it, what is?

Weather report in London today: sun's out, but it's not swimming weather at the moment. What I'm wearing: Chanel-esque bold plaid jacket, lime green jumper, tan leggings, hot pink watch. Fashion can be fun.

little snippets of shiny thoughts

A colourful departure from my BWT (black white tan) series: the lovely, effervescent Lucy, of Snippets of Shiny Thoughts. I love that name, and I Love Lucy.

I haven't known her that long, or spent that much time with her - I'd guess I've known her about six months - but she's one of those rare human beings who you just feel so safe with. She listens. She's kind. She doesn't seem to have a bitchy bone in her body.

And she has such a contagious smile. I defy you to spend time in her company without smiling, too.

I didn't crop these shots, which I took in the press room of fashion week on Day Three, just got really close in. Lucy had already coloured her hair herself, but stopped into the Mac beauty salon place to get a trim. It wasn't until later when I looked at them that I realised: little snippets of shiny thoughts, sprinkled like fairy dust on her perfect, English rose skin. Oh and p.s. when I went to her blog to tell her I'd finally posted these shots, I saw she's assisted on a shoot for a really brilliant eyewear line called APRIL EYEWEAR. Click here, see the post, isn't it fabulous!!

shini's snippets of shiny thoughts

Two phrases keep going thru my head lately: 'snippets of shiny thoughts', and 'it's not about the clothes.' The second phrase will be in my next post. The first, is the name of Lucy's blog and as you know (see end of previous post) today Snippets is having her first birthday. (Are blogs female? Anyone who's French, can you answer that? Actually.. Le Blog de Betty.. guess blogs are male).

Anyway, this post isn't about Lucy, it's about Shini (Park & Cube). This is Shini's shirt, and it's her Shiny Thought of the Day.

Take one lacy body (in this case, I believe it's Topshop, but lots o' brands are doing it). Add a ribbon or two, criss-crossed, attached with a small box of gold safety pins. Add a few more. Do it - presumably - as a procrastination procedure when you're meant to be studying for finals.

Coincidentally - altho, really, is there such thing as coincidence? Or is it just God working in small ways? - my lovely friend Toni, who was actually a 'real' friend - recently met - before I even knew her blog - has just done a fabulous post ('seeing double') which starts off with the line:

"Inspiration comes mostly from others not from ourself, and anyone who tells you they are never inspired by others is probably not being completely honest with you."

I am so inspired by Toni. I'm inspired by Shini, by all of you. I've frittered the morning away letting tweets by brilliant women like Rachel Johnson lead me, like woodland fairy sprites, to Caitlin Moran, to Claudia Winkleman, to a hilarious piece on SATC by Lindy West.. just totally energised with inspiration. All these beautiful minds.

p.s. Oh joy! Pure coincidence: just went to tell Shini her post is up, and saw she's done the definitive post on the Perfect Day. ('Princess March') It looks just like the post I was about to do, only better. Influence out of sequence.
