It feels like ages since we did a fun little impromptu photo shoot in the rain after lunch with Jennifer, aka the Style Crusader, in Covent Garden (same day as Eskimo kiss - more on that later), but I just realised Jen's great post was only the 13th ('resurrected'), anyway she's said it all better than I could. It seems like ages since then: press days will do that to one.
Anyway: I want a snood. But I don't want to buy one. I keep thinking with all the jumpers I've amassed over the years that I can't seem to part with there must be ONE that I'm ready to take the plunge with and somehow DIY it into a snood. I always think people that do DIY are so brave. But then again, so are people who GIVE THINGS AWAY and aren't pack rats or even, like Jen is known to do, sell stuff on eBay so as to buy new stuff. If I do get the courage to make my own snood, you'll be the first to know.
Mrs. Crusader is wearing: Wearing: Cabbages & Roses jumper, Jigsaw snood, Made in the Shade leggings, Mentor wedges, and Alexander McQueen bag.
It started last night, when I saw this post by Erika, of the Fashion Chalet, and decided it's my favourite look of the moment. Of course, she lives in the American South, and on a sunny day can pull this off: I don't know if the London light will ever be quite right. I love the way she channels D&G (her white eyelet dress) with Chanel (the hay).. well just read the post, you'll see what I mean. (E's rings, dress and suede fringe bag by Forever 21, H&M bow hair-clip, suede fringe Minnetonka Knee-Hi boots.)
Anyway, it got me thinking about how if I had to point to one universal 'trend' - it's more than a trend, it's a meme, a movement - to mix it up (feminine/masculine, casual/chic) and decided to pull out one photo that epitomised that trend. I couldn't do just one, of course: but I think black biker jackets - leather and lace, basically - are the best example.
Note her fringe bag channels Erika's boots, and Jen: see her demure patent loafers? Aren't they exactly the ones you wanted in Kate Kanzier but they didn't have in your size?
That led me to thinking about last Friday, and how Jen couldn't decide what to wear, ('easing my way into spring') and I realised how similar her scarf/jacket looks. And how it really is all about that: easing our way into spring, with our own unique but often uncannily similar style.
(On Jen: Mulberry Scarf, Madewell Jacket, Zara T-shirt, Urban Outfitters Leggings, Kate Kanzier Green Luella Brogues)
THEN, I went to E's blog to steal her shots (with her permission, of course) and lo and behold! A new post by her ('forward march'): which, in the most serendipitous, unplanned way, kind of brings it all full circle.
Thank you Alex, for your gorgeous photos of Erika. Thank you Erika for agreeing to 'guest blog', thank you Jen for posing.. thank you blond girl whose name I forgot... thank you each of you, for reading this and maybe even commenting, because otherwise, I'm just shouting in the dark! Have a lovely Tuesday night, wherever on the planet you are, and hope you're easing your way into spring nicely (unless of course you're in the Southern Hemisphere, in which case, you're easing your way into fall).
p.s. While I was posting this, Mr. Dot found this on youtube.. you should have seen us both, mock surfin' & singing along. Something to help ease you into spring, and oldie but goodie:
You might recall I recently held a contest to guess who was wearing whose shoes @ LFW ('whose shoes', 3 March). I gave a cryptic little hint: DAFFODILS. Which the cute & clever Sarra, the Swiss Miss of 'Today I Like..' figured out! I really admire how her mind works. In her own words:
"First i thought, i have to look for narciso rodriguez shoes, because "daffodil" means narzisse in german or narciso in italian. but i realized quickly that he ain't british! :-) so then i kept looking for a shoe called daffodil and found one from rupert sanderson. then i checked his spring 2010 collection et voila, there she was! estelle! ;-) I was looking, if i would find some front row pictures with someone wearing these shoes... but i couldn't find out who wore them. would you tell me!? or would you give another hint? maybe i could find out! I loved looking for the shoe! (am i crazy!?) :-) "
No, you are not crazy, Sarra. Far from it. But then Mr. Dot got involved, suggesting that altho she's clearly the winner of the contest, I should still give her a multiple choice for the 2nd part. If anyone reading this wants to help Sarra win Part Two, please feel free to contribute.
The wearer of Sanderson's beautiful Estelle sandals, in my favourite colour, a kind of pale turquoise, or celadon, is: a) a well known WAG (Wife and/or Girlfriend of a rich football player) b) the wife of a deposed dictator with a penchant for expensive shoes c) the editor of vogue.com d) a beautiful young British actress recently up for an Oscar
Fingers on buzzers please.
As, through freak coincidence, Sarra & her Man were visiting London from Switzerland last weekend (lovely post about it here), we were trying to plan to meet so I could give her a free Primrose Hill cupcake as a prize, but we all got busy & then we were away on the weekend itself, so Sarra has come up with a clever alternative prize. Meanwhile speaking of cupcakes, Jen of Style Crusader has organised a Cupcake Party, this Friday, @ noon @ Ella's in Covent Garden. All are invited to attend. Details here.
Just uploaded over 2000 shots. And I'm just posting one: Emerald, in her grandmother's vintage REAL leopard coat from the 1950s, and JENNIFER, the true Style Crusader, who is, as we speak, no longer a catwalk virgin: yes, cupcakes, she's been to her first catwalk show tonight @ 7:30. We had a long day, got stranded in Somerset House square outside in the freezing rain under a giant umbrella with a wonderful gaggle of blog girls and new BFFs, and I wanted to put this up to surprise her when she gets home to Oxford.
I just met her friend Emerald a few days ago, and we went to her first show together. Delightful girls. I've got a whole series of these shots and it was impossible to choose, so I just closed my eyes and picked one.
Oh! And here's a weird coincidence: Jen's boots are a gift - Christmas present I think? - from HER grandmother. So this is kind of a grandmother post, unintentionally
RoadTrip23 is the natural evolution from StreetStyle London, which is still here, and has been since 2009. Because there's more to the world than fashion, and there's more to the world than London. Lovely as London is.
I'll still be posting street style, if something really grabs me, but have expanded into other areas of interest, primarily travel, the arts, culture. Whatever I feel is beautiful or interesting: either man made, or a natural wonder.
