Took these shots of a model less than a year ago: February 2010 fashion week, Somerset House. It just occurred to me: at the time, we hadn't yet seen Burberry's show, Christopher Bailey had yet to introduce us to the idea of wearing a men's style Shearling/leather aviator jacket over pretty dresses. It hadn't yet filtered down to every high street chain. We hadn't yet been so saturated with Aviator Overload that unless those of us who were fashion forward enough to be rocking the look in early spring we were too burnt out to care, by the time the autumn rolled around.
Just curious: did anyone buy or wear an aviator jacket A/W 2010? If so, please send an 8x10 glossy to: jill@haybooks.com. I'm trying to think of another trend whose star burnt so bright in 2010 and was so quickly extinguished, but none comes to mind.

I loved my aviator jacket and wore it all over Paris in the autumn! (http://sugarandspice-shopgirl.blogspot.com/2010/11/paris-what-i-wore.html) I prefer the close-up shots of it here though (http://sugarandspice-shopgirl.blogspot.com/2010/10/its-all-in-detail.html). In sleepy Cardiff I've not seen that many - besides sitting forlornly in the shops! So I guess I'm lucky!
Love all your posts today - they are making my otherwise (very) boring day in the office much better :)
PS the models look in these photos is so simple and yet so chic too. Always the way. With models!!
I totally agree! Left you a message on the post and I love the detail shots - and it's funny you were in Paris and it's the NEXT jacket because of the commercial.. I'm picturing that song now.
Thank you - I actually took the Happy Because post down because no one had commented and I felt like I was just posting too much because I'm home and feeling rather listless and bored, too - somehow it's a comfort to know that you're up there in Cardiff having a similar day.
Check out Shopgirl's posts people they're great and she's lovely.
Didn't buy one - apart from it getting a bit tedious seeing everyone wearing them I didn't like any of the faux fur ones enough to part with my cash and couldn't justify a shearling purchase when I already have a perfectly good and lovely shearling jacket - I'm much more excited about biker jackets.
She look so pretty!!!..effortless and fresh..
XOXO
Stolen from dad? Totally charming! I didn't see aviators taking off as much as predicted. Good case of over-hype, methinks.
I think I prefer the more authentic vintage versions rather than all of the high street stuff, it just seems like less of a fad item. I love how this is cosy and oversized and I hope to find one someday.
she's looking pretty fierce. I did like the aviator jacket but never got round to buying one.
Hannah xx
These photos and this girl are gorgeous. The aviator trend has been such an interesting one -it's absolutely everywhere in the shops but not really that evident on the street. I still wore my huge vintage 80s aviator a few times this winter, but I traded it in for a 70s sheepskin later in the season!
Hope you are well, Jill, and that I will see you soon! xx
I've seen a fair bit of aviator coverage over on Tommy Ton's Paris photos for Style.com ... The last breath? Or are we in for the long haul?
I do love them.
Since I live in "sunny" California - read it never really gets cold enough for such an item and the females tend to wear Ugg boots and mini skirts regardless - I have not seen a single aviator jacket! I rather envy those of you who have to wear jumpers and coats. Yes, poor me. :-)
Love your photos though!
Phyllisa: I totally envy you - I have been LONGING to live in California for years. London is still my favourite city, but it's a city. Want to switch lives for a while? LIke in that film, the Holiday? I'd even throw an aviator jacket into the deal. ; )
Oh and Eight/Imogen: I just saw one on the street lastnight! (aviator jacket) But it was dark and I didn't have my camera on me.
