the girl with the pink lace shorts

I saw this girl inside the Yohji Yamamoto exhibit at the V&A Museum last Friday, but we couldn't shoot there, so I didn't ask where she got her pale pink lace shorts. Then, after, I met and shot someone else, a lovely woman (post coming up) and then saw this girl and realised they were all friends. I didn't write her name down - we were all meeting a lot of people at once, it was almost like fashion week - but she's visiting from Australia and she works for the designer/brand who made the shorts.

When we were kids, growing up in suburbia, we'd sometimes walk past a house that we called the 'vanilla, chocolate and strawberry house.' It was painted in a combination of these colours - a creamy white, pale pale pink, the colour of not strawberries, but of strawberry ice cream, and a chocolate brown. I'm sure that house has long been renovated, expanded, extended, and repainted, but I can see it so vividly in my memory. I love that combination: in clothing, as well as as a food item.

The first thing I noticed was her hair - I love the ease of how she's twisted it up and the fringe just falls across her eyes!

Those shorts are so cute :)

Thanks Gunhild, Sabine, Amy, Queen, Emily.. wish I had written down the designer, all I know is it's a he (possibly) and he - or she - is somewhere in Australia. Perhaps she'll get in touch when she's back home, down under. xx

Beautiful lace shorts! She looks wonderful. I wish I could see the Yohji exhibit. I did just get to see the McQueen one at the Met. Jaw-dropping.

Thanks, Sophie.. just looked it up:

similar, but different - I LOVE them actually. If I needed new clothes - or had reason to wear something new - this is so what I'd love. Someone should DIY something with, like old lady lace curtains.. this is so screaming out for a DIY post.

You got me curious so I googled 'lace shorts, australia, pale pink' and sod's law - the first and second entries were my post. So still mystified.

Aesthete: I'm guessing you're in NY? I wish I could have seen it. We'll be in NY in a few weeks, but mostly out at the beach - if we go into town, I'm going to see if it's still there. Too bad we can't swap.

Ha, funny you said that, Charlie: if I hadn't stopped to shoot these girls, I wouldn't have run into you the minute I did before the YY show! Funny old world.

Nia!! That's right, because I made you tell me your name like six times, AND spell it, and then I ran into my friend Charlie May (who I had been texting with, because she was going to the next YY catwalk show, and I was leaving).. anyway, I didn't write it down, so apologies, and I'm glad you found me!

If you're reading this: email me @ jill@haybooks.com - I'll send you the shots at higher res, if you'd like. Lovely to meet you!

I love when people I shoot find the blog, it never ceases to amaze me.
